Create a Google Form and text it to your peers. Ideally, you want 150 student responses if your school has 1,500 to 2,500 students.

Ask students 3 easy questions:

1. Do you know what an AED is?
2. Do you know where the AEDs are located at your school?
3. Do you know how to use it?

Yes. Here is a sample email you can adapt and send to your principal.

In 2024, California Assembly Bill No. 3262 was passed. This bill requires that when an AED is placed in a public or private school serving grades 6 to 12, the principal must, at least annually, notify pupils of the location of all AED units on campus.

• If you belong to a charity organization (such as Amigos, Sandpipers, or NCL), ask if you can speak at an event.
• Ask to speak at your local church or youth group.
• If you play a club sport, see if you can speak before or after practice.
• Reach out to your local fire department for support. They are often happy to attend events and can offer CPR certification.
• Tell all your friends that anyone can use an AED. Just turn it on.
• Become CPR certified.

To add your school's name, download the image, upload it into an AI chat like ChatGPT or Claude, and ask it to replace "INSERT SCHOOL NAME" with your school's name. It will do it for you.

Username: Use whereistheaed. followed by your school's name or initials. For example, Palos Verdes High School is whereistheaed.pv.

• Reach out to friends you play sports with, met at camp, family friends, and so on.

1. If you already have permission from your Principal, reach out to your Athletic Director. Here is an example email you can edit.

2. Reach out to your local Fire Department. Here is an example email you can edit.

   Personal Notes: I hosted my first training in our high school auditorium with 115 students (across 3 sports teams). We wanted to ensure every student could practice CPR on a mannequin, so we limited the number of teams that could attend. You will likely need to host multiple sessions depending on the size of your school. We kept our training to 20 minutes because we wanted to ensure every student was still able to practice their sport. In the pictures you can see I had 8 firefighters, but you don't need that many. I was lucky our community has been very supportive!

3. Confirm a date, time, and location with your Principal and Athletic Department. Then reach out to coaches.
